What to bring
Bring your valid provisional driving licence and any glasses or contact lenses you need for driving. Wear comfortable footwear that lets you feel and control the pedals.
What happens first
Your first lesson is about establishing a safe starting point. If you are a complete beginner, this normally means getting familiar with the driving position, controls, observations and moving off/stopping in a suitable area. If you have previous experience, the lesson can begin with an assessment of what you already do confidently.
You do not need to arrive knowing everything
The point of the lesson is to learn. Asking questions, needing something explained twice or taking time to coordinate a new skill is normal. Progress comes from turning unfamiliar actions into routines.
After the lesson
You should have a clearer idea of what you handled well and what to practise next. If you are able to get legal private practice with an appropriate supervising driver, ask which skills would be useful to reinforce between lessons.
